If the drone presents an immediate danger, call 111 now and ask for the Police.

We're responsible for investigating complaints about the dangerous use of drones, also known as Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS); Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs); and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

To report safety or security concerns, please email us at isi@caa.govt.nz

It is important that you provide the following information:

  1. Date, time and location of the incident
  2. Your contact details
  3. Identifying details of the drone operator – name and address (where known), car registration plate number, a photograph or detailed description of the person flying the drone. Or any other information that could assist us in identifying the person who was flying it.

The action we can take is limited when the identity of the drone operator is unable to be established.

For questions about reporting drone incidents, please call 0508 4 SAFETY (0508 472 338). This phone will be answered during office hours (but only voicemail after hours)

All drone operators are required to comply with the Civil Aviation Rules.
