In accordance with Civil Aviation Rules, Part 71, the Civil Aviation Authority formally reviews each current airspace designation and classification on a regular basis.
Under Civil Aviation Rule 71.11 Review of designated and classified airspace, the review must be undertaken at least every five years, to verify the continuing need for the airspace designation or classification.
When a review is undertaken an appropriate level of consultation with industry and affected stakeholders is undertaken.
The CAA is undertaking a full review of New Zealand airspace in accordance with Part 71, to be carried out from 2015 to 2018.
