The CAA is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We are continually working to improve the accessibility and usability of our website and digital services to ensure all New Zealanders can access important aviation safety information and services.

Standards and compliance

We aim to conform to the New Zealand Government Web Standards and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These standards help ensure our website is accessible to people with diverse abilities, including those who:

  • Use screen readers or other assistive technologies

  • Have low vision or colour blindness
  • Are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Have cognitive or learning disabilities
  • Use mobile devices or slow internet connections

Accessibility features

Our website includes the following accessibility features:

  • Clear structure: Logical heading hierarchy and consistent navigation throughout the site
  • Alternative text: Descriptive alt text for images that convey information
  • Keyboard navigation: All functions available using keyboard alone
  • Colour contrast: Text and background colours meet minimum contrast requirements
  • Resizable text: Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of functionality
  • Clear language: Content written in plain language where possible, with complex aviation terms explained
  • Accessible documents: PDFs and downloadable documents made accessible where possible
  • Skip links: Ability to skip to main content and bypass repetitive navigation

Known limitations

We acknowledge that some parts of our website may not yet be fully accessible. We are aware of the following limitations:

  • Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible and are being progressively remediated
  • Some of our online forms may be difficult to use with just a keyboard
  • Some older videos may not have captions available

We are actively working to address these issues as part of our ongoing improvement programme.
