Certification functions

  • Organisation, aircraft and product certification; entry control into aviation system
  • Ensure new organisations, aircraft and products are rule compliant and safe
  • Registration of aircraft
  • Re-certification of aviation system participants
  • Processing and approving certificates and other changes
  • Processing and approving aircraft or product design change

Monitoring and Inspection functions

  • Focuses on the aviation sectors under the oversight the Aviation Safety Group which oversees most of the aviation system. The two notable exceptions are security and infrastructure – these sectors are monitored by the Aviation Security and Infrastructure Group.
  • Contributes to the Authority’s overall surveillance function under the ICAO State Oversight System, Critical Element (CE) 7.
  • Plans and conducts proactive activities to provide assurance that:
    • current certificates remain valid
    • relevant legislation is otherwise being met
    • aviation risks within the system are being identified and managed.
