Appendix A - Security Operational Standards

Amendment to principle rule

After paragraph A.5(b) in Appendix A to Part 140 insert:

(c) Despite paragraphs (b)(1) and (2) a constable may enter a sterile area without themself or anything they are carrying being searched if the constable either is an in-flight security officer or is carrying a firearm, a weapon, ammunition or other equipment on behalf of an in-flight security officer or a foreign in-flight security officer.

(d) A constable entering a sterile area under paragraph (c) must be satisfied that the firearm, weapon, ammunition or other equipment that they are carrying has been and is held subject to any relevant security controls approved by the Director.


 

This note is not part of the Rule but is intended to indicate its general effect.

  • This rule amends the Civil Aviation Rule Part 140, Providers of Aviation Security Services (the principal rule).
  • This rule enables an in-flight security officer in specified circumstances to enter a sterile area without being searched.
  • This rule enables a constable to bring items into specified security-controlled areas, subject to security measures approved by the Director, while preserving the operational requirements for in-flight security officers and foreign in-flight security officers.
