From 16 September 2026, passengers travelling through Dunedin Airport will notice a change to our security screening process.
Body scanners, also known as Automated Imaging Technology (AIT), have been used alongside walk-through metal detectors at Dunedin Airport since 2019. They have proven highly effective at detecting items carried on a person at major airports, and are widely used at major airports across New Zealand. Moving fully to body scanners will provide a more consistent screening process for passengers, while maintaining a high standard of aviation security.
For passengers who choose not to use the body scanner or are unable to do so, we have alternative screening options available.
