CAA is hosting the MRO training course in Wellington, run by the Australasian Medical Review Officers Association (AMROA). The alcohol and other drugs (AOD) regulations – CAR Part 99 – are going live in April 2027, and this is important training for Aviation Medical Examiners.
Course date: 12-14 November 2026
Expressions of interest – response required please: see form below.
Visit the AMROA website(external link) for more information.
This is a popular two and half day highly interactive and practical course, followed by the exam on the Saturday morning. We are fortunate to have members of the AMROA Training Faculty from both sides of the Tasman running the course here in Wellington.
Aviation organisations are required to have a Drug and Alcohol Management Plan (DAMP), which will include AOD testing. Oversight and interpretation of tests will be a requirement. It is important that those involved have a good understanding of testing and the common pitfalls. MROs are in a good position to provide advice both to organisations, safety-sensitive workers, and specifically pilots, about the testing programme.
It will also cover rail, maritime and road AOD testing, in both New Zealand and Australia, together with overviews of toxicology, implications of 'medicinal' cannabis, 'beating the test' and laboratory processes.
This course is relevant to Aviation Medical Examiners, GPs and others working with maritime, road and other safety sensitive industries.
The fee will cover the course and the exam. The training has been very popular; it is therefore recommended that enrolments are made promptly when registration opens in June 2026.
AMROA’s indicative costing is NZD $1,300 to $1,500, with early-bird options.
Please fill and submit the following form, as spaces are limited. We need to know if you are interested or not.
