A Part 66 IA certificate is an additional privilege, over and above holding a Part 66 AME licence.

It allows an engineer to perform and certify the following two maintenance functions:

  • review of airworthiness (RA)
  • conformity of major modifications and repairs.

Apply to attend a refresher course if you’ve gained a certificate previously, but you no longer meet the currency requirements.

Part 66 Subpart E - Certificate of Inspection Authorisation (IA)

Current IA – privileges not being used but certificate has a valid expiry date. Does not meet the recent experience requirements of CAR Part 66.207(1)(i), (ii) and (iii). Successfully complete a refresher course comprising at least 8 hours instruction that is acceptable to the Director - Refer to CAR Part 66.207(1)(iv).
Current AMEL and IA – but privileges not being used but has a valid expiry date. Does not meet the recent experience requirements of CAR Part 66.207(2). Ensure that you regain the 6 in 24 months experience requirements of CAR Part 66.207(2), then complete an IA refresher course - Refer to CAR Part 66.207(1)(iv).
Expiring or expired IA Meets the recent experience requirements of CAR 66.207(1)(i), (ii) and (iii) and Part 66.207(2). Apply to renew your Certificate – refer to CAR Part 66.11(c) for duration of certificate.
Does not or has not meet the recent experience requirements of CAR 66.207(1)(i), (ii) and (iii) and Part 66.207(2).

Ensure that you meet the 6 in 24 months experience requirements of CAR Part 66.207(2), then complete an IA refresher course - Refer to CAR Part 66.207(1)(iv).
