Please note that new guidelines are in the process of being developed and more information will be available online shortly.
CAA does certify class 1 and 2 pilots and air traffic controllers with type 1 diabetes.
There is an initial grounding period of 6 months to show evidence that a pilot or air traffic controller has stable management if their diabetes.
Pilots and air traffic controllers with type 1 diabetes are strongly encouraged to contact CAA about the information required for consideration for medical certification. This includes information about CAA’s requirements and the use of devices such as continuous glucose monitors and pumps.
CAA has developed operational guidelines so that pilots and air traffic controllers can maintain safe blood glucose levels when operating or flying.
